I posted a comment on a YouTube video about Flat Earth recently, and it got a fair amount of likes (if I do say so myself). I also got a wonderful comment by a space denier/supposed flat earther, who has “proof” modern science is all a lie.

They bring 33 pieces of evidence, which is too much for 1 post, thus we will only do 33 to 23 today.

Their YouTube comment will be in **bold**, and my commentary will be in normal script. It was 5am, I was on a caffeine high. Let’s go girls!

**According to modern “science”….. The Earth’s Axis, it’s Orbital Inclination around the Sun is 66.6 Degrees**

Bruh. We define Inclination about the ecliptic with Earth’s orbit being the base line. It’s literally ZERO degrees! Even inclination based on the Sun’s equator is only 7.2 degrees. That’s a straight up lie!

They meant earth’s tilt, 23.4**°**, although due to precession it wobbles between 22.1 and 24.5**°**. If you subtract 23.4 from a right angle (90**°**), you get 66.6**°**, but that isn’t the axial tilt and Earth’s tilt is not always 23.4**°** anyway. It’s kind of a redundant point.

**32: The Earth Orbits the Sun at 66,600 Miles Per Hour**

That is true. I have nothing to comment.

**31: The Earth’s Circumference is 600x6x6 Nautical Miles**

1 nautical mile is 1.852 km , making Earth’s circumference (40’075km) ~ 21’638 nautical miles though the equator. 600x6x6 is 21,600 nautical miles, so you’ve kind of reduced the accuracy to fit your statement. I sense a teensy bit of cherry-picking.

Secondly, the nautical mile was based off of spherical geometry (it originally being defined as 1/60 of a degree), so I can see why this person would switch to nautical miles to use loads of 6s and prove this point.

**30: The Speed of Sound is 666 Knots Per Second **

The speed of sound is different depending on the medium sound is travelling. In air, it’s (generally, not always) 1’235 km/h which is 667 when rounded. Aww, did the data not fit your argument?

**29: The Force of Gravity on Earth is 666 Newtons **

Bruh, is Earth on Atkins? Force of who’s gravity? I thought “maybe they mean the Sun’s gravity on Earth” but through Newton’s formula that only comes to …. you know… 22 orders of magnitude greater than their claim with no 6s in sight, even in the decimal bit.

And then I realised, they’re probably talking about the Gravitational constant. However, it’s still 6.674 x 10-11. There’s no way you could fudge this number to be 666 N, and the unit isn’t even in Newtons!

I rest my case, Earth is on a diet, probably paleo.

**28: The Curvature of A Square Mile is .666 Feet… in 10 Miles: 66.6 Ft… in 20 Miles: 266.6 Ft… 40M: 1,066.6 Ft… 50M: 1,666 Ft… 70M: 3,266.6 Ft… 80M: 4,266.6 Ft… 100M: 6,666.6Ft… The Heliocentric Curvature Math is Based on 666 **

I believe they’re talking about the “8 inches per mile squared” rule, which is already notorious for how bad it is since it is based on the assumption you’re using tiny distances and it doesn’t account for refraction and the observer.

Since there’s 12 inches in a foot, that would mean the curvature is 0.667 feet. As such, they’ve chopped their numbers and have chosen a less conventional way of measuring.

Notice how they omitted 30, 60, and 90? It’s because they know the 6s only stem from division and chopping, and hence they discard what doesn’t fit their narrative. Hmmmmm….

**27: The Arctic & Antarctic Circles are at exactly 66.6° **

Could you imagine if a student wrote such a vague statement in a dissertation or a thesis? Within the first draft this would get flagged as extremely ambiguous, and would probably confuse the heck out of my professors.

What they mean is that the circles are exactly absolutely 66.6 degrees in latitude.

It’s still not true.

The polar circles change in position each year. This year it’s 66**°**33’48.4″ which is about 66.5634**°**, that’s not taking things like short-term nutation into account. If we go by the commenter’s previous arguments, we need to chop the decimals to get their answer of… 66.5 degrees? Wait, they’ve ROUNDED their answer now?

This is the first time they’ve rounded their number. Interesting that they’ll do that because this time it fits their argument. Hmmmmmm….

**26: Astro-Not Peggy Whitson Spent 666 Days in Space **

You misspelled astronaut, but go off I guess. Strictly speaking, she spent 665 days, 22 hours, and 22 minutes in space in total. Not in one go, but through multiple expeditions. I see we’ve decided to round the time up to 666 days now.

Peggy Whitson is such an amazing person, and her achievements have really opened my eyes. She’s such an inspiration, and I recommend checking out the link to learn more about her.

**25: The Distance to the Moon is 6 x 60 x 666 Miles **

The Moon is on average 0.00257 AU, which is 238’897 miles. Divide that by 6, then 60, and you get 663.6. Not 666.

Instead, if you divide 238’897 by Freddie Mercury’s birth year and his age at death, you’ll roughly get the temperature of the cosmic microwave background. Hence, Freddie Mercury is the creator of the universe (I guess you could say he was a *Prince of the Universe!)*

**24: The Diameter of the Moon is 6 x 6 x 60 Miles **

The Moon’s diameter is 3474.8 km, about 2159 miles. 6 x 6 x 60 is 2160 so they’re not wrong here, but it’s not 666, it simply has 3 6s. I don’t really see the point in this argument.

**23: Sunset is Divided by 3 Degrees (6° + 6° + 6°) aka: “Civil, Nautical, and Astronomical Twilight” **

That’s correct. Civil Dawn and Dusk were chosen accordingly because it’s the point where people can start to make out objects on Earth clearly. Nautical Dawn/Dusk was chosen because sailor’s had trouble viewing the horizon when the Sun is too low. We made these all easy to remember by making them all about 6**°**, we didn’t choose 6s to hide some weird message. Chill!

This is enough for now. I very much enjoyed reading this comment, and perhaps I’ll reply back with some corrections. For now, I have to get back to studying some modern “science,” haha!

So if scientists use the number 6 too much, that proves the Earth is flat?

I guess so. Most of the numbers arise from just division errors, which is hilarious!

Actually, I remember clicking on a YouTube video a while back about Saturn’s polar hexagon. I thought it was going to be a sciency video, but instead it was about how Saturn is the sixth planet, hexagons have six sides, and Cassini was NASA’s sixth interplanetary mission (I’m pretty sure that part was false). I didn’t watch the rest of the video, but yeah… I guess noticing the number six is a big thing for conspiracy theorists.
